Hi,
I need to make a dummy cake, but can't find any info on this.
I have heard that I should cover the styro foam cake in piping jel to help the fondant stick.
Also the styrofoam mold has a sharp edge around the top, how do I cut/trim this without it being mis-shaped. I imagine it'll just crumble. And not look smooth through the fondant.
Does anyone have any tips to help to make a realistic looking cake?

When covering a dummy cake, be sure to have your icing super smooth under the fondant, or all the imperfections will simply be mirrored in your fondant. The sharp edge on the edge of the styrofoam shouldn't be an issue at all, as long as your fondant is rolled thick enough. If you are looking for that really rolled edge look, you can purchase cake dummies with the rolled edges already cut super smooth. I believe this website even sells them! Hope that helps, and have no fear, its easier than covering a real cake!
