I was just at Earlene's website and her cakes are beautiful. But they are riddled with gumpaste flowers. I know if I had the right equipment I could teach myself but I don't know what I should get and I really can' afford the 500.oo dollar classes plus travel expenses. The Wilton classes are so overloaded in my area, we are rubbing elbows and have no where to sit. So, somebody tell me everything I need, like ingredients, equipment, etc... I would really appreciate. Just make me a list and let me apologize before hand for being so demanding. I am addicted and my husband thinks I'm crazy because I dream about cakes.

welp, I can tell you what I use:
Obviously, GUMPASTE,
a set of ball tools, ( I like the stainless steel better than the plastic ones)

You need a thick foam square and a thin foam square (not sure their technical names) You use these to roll out and curl or thin the edges of the petals.

Also need a small brush for painting on either water or an extract to make the petals stick to the cone base of the flower.

Also need floral cutouts.

I'd get to a craft store and buy the Wilton gumpaste flower kit and get their gumpaste flower book and teach yourself. It's what I did.

Hope this helps.

You'll also need some floral wire and floral tape. I like the 24" and 26" gauge wire best. I usually use green, but if your making pink flowers, white wire is probably best. I also like covered wire. Get a good GP book. Finally, get a veiner.

Have you seen this thread? Shirley put together some information on what you would need to get started. icon_smile.gif

I will say I have found nearly all of these tools plus some wonderful Suflower brand flower cutters and veiners on Global Sugar Art.

Small #18839 Page 4

Look on the home page, left hand menu for Sunflower cutters and veiners.
I like the sets for the 5 petal blossom, the Hydrangea cutter and veiner set and the Holland tulip cutter and veiner set. I didn't check for floral wire and floral tape. But you will need #26 gauge wire in white and in green as well as floral tape in those two colors. And you will need gum glue, petal and luster dusts and paintbrushes.

Thanks for all of the great information. I know my husband hates it every time I get on here because I want to buy something. I tell him it will pay off in the end.
Thanks
