HI all! Has anyone ever tried the One Stroke Painting Technique to paint designs on cakes? If so, what did you use as paint and how did you dilute?
Thanks!

That's so funny, because my mom is awesome at the one stroke painting and I told her I was gonna hire her to paint cakes!!!! I'm planning on trying to open a cake and cookie business when I move to Ohio (as soon as I sell my house and renovate the garage into a kitchen) and in theory I don't see why it wouldn't work....people write on cakes all the time with extracts and powdered food coloring. They also have liquid stuff that I've seen in the stores for writing on fondant.......I have a sneaking suspicion it might be the same texture as paint but I"m not sure. Also, I've thought about using piping gel but that would remain tacky. It has to be possible.......I have so many beautiful and crazy cake designs with the painting techniques on them LOL Hopefully someone will say it is possible!!!!!!!

I paint cakes, this is my first e-mail to cake central.
I have some photos of my painted cakes. I'll try to upload them.
There is no diluting and the painted fondant looks beautiful.
thesweetpallete.com has some photos and instructions.
I use the Amerigel color.

thanks so much I found it.....www.thesweetpalette.com none of the pics are loading up though, must be under construction or my computer!!! Anyhow, I would love to see some of your painted cake, what pics I could see at the top of the homepage on that site look incredible!!!! Does the color dry completely?? Or does it remain tacky?? Can you paint literally like you would with paint or is it not as smooth......like does it go on just as easily as paint would or do you have to work with it a little more??? Oh welcome to Cake Central by the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Beware of an addiction to this site!

There is a picture and instruction of a painted cake in the book Splendid Cakes where cocao butter is used in the paint. I too am going to start one stroke painting. One thing about cake dec. it does seem to open up more creative juices. What do you think?

I know I tried to upload some pic's into a forum and they wouldn't load because the pixels were too big! (I have since learned how to fix that but I don't have anything new to show!!!! Whaaaaaaa!!!)

Maybe this is the reason your photos wouldn't upload?? You can still upload them into the gallery as long as they're 2000 KB or smaller.

I hope you can get it to work soon!!!!! I'm dying to see your work and in the mean time....I'm STILL not getting anything done in my house!!!!!!!!

That is absolutely wonderful. I've been wanting to take the "one-stroke" painting class at Michaels. Great job. So creative. Do you do "One-Stroke" painting on other mediums?

Wow! I'm NOT a painter, but attempted a paint job on a practice cake a few months ago..please excuse the cake, it was my first teacup and I know I can do better next time. I also painted the design on the fondant bikini cake (I ran out of fondant for the top...so it was VERY low cut!). I just Wilton colors, but water them down a bit w/ vanilla extract. I'd really like to look into this painting thing!

Geez, ellyrae you sure know how to make someone feel good! The teacup actually wasn't filled with anything...I just used an upside-down mini wondermold cake and iced the top in brown with a layer of piping gel. It looked so real!

Genna.....totally awesome teacup...............Cindy...wow...wow..........I just bought some americolor gels from a local cake store here......they're more expensive than on CC....but I just had to have them NOW!! LOL>..anyhow.....I spent like 50 bucks on "paint" to try this technique!!! I'm no one stroke artist, like I said before ...my mom is the one that's the genius at that stuff.....you should see her house, every rock outside is painted....every mirror inside...murals on the walls...OMG...she goes nuts with this stuff!!! Thank you so much for letting me see it is possible...keep up the great work, I'm loving your cakes!!
