Has anyone made the royal icing penquins? I have plenty of directions for the fondant ones, but I've never worked with fondant so I'm nervous to try. I've used royal icing before. I need to make a bunch of penguins for a cake I am doing for my son's birthday party this weekend. i want to make the penguins tomorrow or Wed so they harden - any advice is appreciated. Everyone says how easy they are but I'm just not that confident! ![]()
Thanks, Joanne
Marshmallow fondant is very easy and very inexpensive to make if you want to give it a try at home. That way you will know if you are concerned for nothing, or if you really should try them with royal. All I do is melt some marshmallows in the microwave and knead in some powered sugar with a little bit of water. You wouldn't be out much to give it a try.
Ive always used fondant to make my figurines...Im not sure how the royal icing would work to make 3d figurines...
try a large round tip for the body. using orange and a small round tip, do the feet. using black start at the base and squeeze up slightly. stop squeezing before you gently pull away so you dont leave a "tip". use a leaf tip to do the wings at the sides. and for the beak...hmmm..what does a penguin look like anyway ? lol. orange with a tip to make rose petals or crysanthamum petals (sorry - not up on my tip numbers) . the chest using white with a flat or petal tip, finger dipped in sugar and pat down so its flush against the body.
gee, after all that, are you confused? fondant sounds easier. good luck.
Thanks all! Sounds like I should use the fondant. I have marshmallows in the house along with some powdered sugar, so I will give this a go tomorrow morning. I concerned 1) about getting the fondant black enough and 2) molding everything correctly.
I'll experiment and see what happens! Thanks again.
Joanne
