Can I Use Americolors To Color Candy Melts?

I would like to start experimenting with Candy Melts. Can I use Americolor soft gel to color white candy melts? Thanks

I don't know about AmeriColor but I tried using Wilton's regular colored icing and it did not dry. Stayed wet for weeks icon_sad.gif So I broke down and bought Wilton's candy colors. I can't find any Americolor here in town.

I have gotten away with it in small amounts with crisco added to it (I usually work out of baby food jars)

I haven't tried it yet--it is on my growing wish list--I know you can with the addition of Flo-coat. Flo-coat is sold here on this site in the store. I think there is a discription about it there also.

you need to use coloring designed specifically for candy only. Most gels are either water based or alcohol based which will cause the chocolate to seize up and cause problems. Candy colors are oil based and designed to be used with metled chocolate.

Flo-coat is a food coloring agent that allows you to use any of AmeriColor's Soft Gel Paste to color white chocolate and compound coatings.

Thanks for all the suggestions. This weekend I am going to experiment coloring candly melts with americolor soft gel and flo-coat. Thanks a bunch icon_smile.gif

i color my wilton candy melts with the wilton gels, no problems at all.

I also have colored Wilton candy melts with wilton colors-No problems!

well..learn something new every day. Everything I have seen from Wilton (including instructor training) basically stated that Wilton gels are water based and aren't designed to work with the Candy Melts....thanks to everyone for the update.
