I like mmf for covering cakes, and something else for decorations. I don't think mmf dries very well. Wilton is good for making bows, and recently I made the fondant recipe from The Cake Bible and thought it was good for covering a cake and making bows. It wasn't good for appliques (sp?) though, as it dries too fast and the edges dried out and cracked before I could get it on the cake. MMF would be good for that.
If you try MMF try Rhonda's Ultimate Marshmallow fondant recipe. It's really good. Although next time I will substitute the lemon extract for the flavors in my buttercream so it matches better.

i have made some MMF and have been playing with it i can't believe how stretchy it is!! I can't believe i was using that other stuff- homemade wilton recipie- this is soooo much easier to work with. I'm going to try toba's next but i do have a question. I have to cover a 14" square cake for a bottom tier- i started with the corners as i had read to start there on square cakes but what do i do with all that extra fondant in the mid section of each side? ??
I've covered a cake in MMF. It wasnt that difficult though it was a little large so I needed help lifting it. I always make cake decorations from the MMF. They harden in about 24 hours. Usually I will make them in advanced. Good Luck!
I just used the recipe for Michele's fondant tha tis on the front page of cc right now under new recipes. It was easier to make than mmf....more steps, but didn't have to knead much at all, and isn't as stiff as mmf while kneading. I did not have NEAR the mess amking this fondant as I do when I make mmf, it tastes great, and was very easy to work with.
