I tried using Luster dust for the first time this weekend. I've read that you need to mix it with vodka (or something with an alcohol-base). At first, I don't think I put enough, it was very thick and gunky. So I added a bit more, and when I was painting it on, it was really streaky and didn't look very nice. Is there part of this technique that I'm missing? Did I still not add enough vodka? How do you get it so it's nice and shiny and smooth, and not all streaky and uneven?? Help!! Thank you!

Try a softer paint brush. Or maybe after painting, let it dry and then brush on some dry dust over it.

Yeah, it is a matter of finding the right consistency. I put a bit of dust in a tiny bowl and then add vodka with a medicine dropper until I get a good consistency. Aslo, to help cut down with the streakiness, it does help to have good quality brush. You can get them at any art supply store--brushes with sable bristles are highly recommended, though some people do okay with other types. I find that the sable bristles really do help.

I agree with misseyek, use a medicine dropper. It sounds like you didn't have enough vodka the 1st time and too much the next. You have to get it just right. I've also found that going over a piece and 2nd time after it's dried will give you a better coat and a nice finish. You'll have to add more vodka as your "painting" because it will evaporate, so as your "paint" starts to get thick, just add a drop or 2 of vodka. Hope this Helps!!

Thank you all so much! I'll try a different brush and the other suggestions for the next time. thumbs_up.gif
