I have a friend who needs 2 cakes. One is going to be a sheet cake (What is a standard size sheet cake, btw?) that should feed at least 20. This one is going to be eaten at a gathering after the March of Dimes Walk. The other cake is going to be a layer cake (to feed about 14) for a picnic given for local members of a preemie message board. Preference is for whipped icing but she will go with buttercream if that's best for the "decor" of the cake and they will both be white cakes. Any ideas?

well lets see - does the preemies message board have a name that they call them selves? You could make a sign w/ there name or something like that or say BLANK BLANK Park sign, then ha ve a picnic basket and blanket since it's a picnic theme?

There were many lovely cakes in the last contest. It was for Baby Showers. Maybe you could find some in there that you would enjoy making or at least getting ideas from there.

Good luck and please post your creations when finished. We'd love to see them.

Hmmmm...I'll have to find out if the group has a name. Thanks for the idea!

What about this for the MOD cake -

Sugar and Spice,
Snips and Snails,
That's what MIRACLES are made of...

????

Good idea, redhare!

How about this for the MOD cake...

I put the MOD logo on (maybe) and then write, "We walked for someone we love" (their tag line is "walk for someone you love") and then list all of their babies' names and possibly put a little baby face above each.

Any good?

How about for the sheet cake, either baby footprints running across it or baby booties creating footsteps on the top of the cake. Or fondant mothers collapsed exhausted all over the cake after the big walk?

For the preemie one, modelled baby figures in different lying down positions, some face down on the top of the tiered cake.

I think I could do the footprints but I've not used fondant yet. Yikes!

I like the footprints idea. that's really cute

I also like the walk to someone you love line but if your going to list all the babies names w/ a face how many are there would that be too difficult of an undertaking?

Also like the exhausted mommies (as I am one of those- aren't we all LOL). I did my very first mmf figures yesterday and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be so there is hope for you b/c I normally suck at that stuff...
Good Luck to ya!

LOL about the fondant. I really want to try it but I just know I'll stink. I'm not artistic like that at all. Maybe I should play with my daughter's Play Doh for modeling practice!

Actually, I just heard from my friend and there are only going to be a few kiddos for the MOD cake so I should have plenty of room. She likes my ideas for both cakes, incl. the Sugar & Spice one. Now I'll have to practice my writing!

Thanks for all of the help! I may just give the footprints a try!

Good Luck Hun = Make sure you pm me and let me know when you've got the finished products in your pics! I really want to see them..

And you laugh, but I bought play dough tools to work with the mmf.
