hey there,

I am just wondering if anyone has used this.. i am a little confused.. the only thing ive ever iced cakes with is butter cream however i want to try something different with my nephews b'day.. so i found this ready to roll icing and am trying to figure out if it is the same as royal icing.. there is an icing in the supermarkets that is just called royal icing, and that i have used to cover christmas cakes.. is the bakels one the same as that?

I just read an article i found on the interent which gave a recipe for royal icing that said its recomended for decorations but that it doesnt taste nice if used to ice a cake.. any ideas? thanks! icon_smile.gif

You definitely dont want to ice an entire cake with royal icing. It dries hard like cement, which is why it makes great accent flowers, drop flowers, leaves, and is great for sugar cookies etc. Royal icing got its name because it was originally used for British royalty on wedding cakes. I can't imagine eating a cake that was iced with royal icing. It in fact, does not taste too great, I always pick it off a cake, but kids seem to love to eat it. Its very much like the premade sugar flowers, character accents (cakemate), and such that you can buy in the grocery store. Never heard of Bakels though. Hope this helps.

bakels RTR is great! icon_lol.gif I use it 90% of the time when I do wedding cakes, birthday cakes etc. I also use this to make my figurines out of and sometimes my flowers. Royal icing is alot different from this tho. I find it alot different to work with too...
The RTR colours up great and is excelent to work with..
