Hi. I just found out that the person who was supposed to make cookies for my daughters preschool class won't be able to, so I volunteered to do it...for tomorrow. Obvoiusly I do not want to take the chance of using royal to decorate since it I won't be decorating till later this afternoon to tonight. CAn I use a basic crusting buttercream to decorate the cookies? I understand that I may have some that will have a little cushed effect to the icing, but lets face it, its for preschoolers. LOL. Has anyone done this and had horrible results? Or are there any other alturnatives to using royal that will dry by morning if I don't decorate till tonight? Thanks. icon_smile.gif

I've done it with BC. You just can't stack them - the icing won't get totally hard like royal icing. I've heard some people use MMF and use the cookie cutter to cut out the design and lay it on top of the cookie. I haven't tried that yet though.

Whenever I do cookies I always use the royal icing....I dont get a chance to decorate until late at night when all the kids are down....I let them dry overnight and then by morning I put them in their container or cellophane bags....I havent had a problem icon_smile.gif

Thanks for the help. I did end up doing them with royal. I have my dehumidifier on and i have my ceiling fan running. Even if they are not completely set I can still transport them without stacking them. TY for all the other cookie posts as well. I never would have done this had I not read how easy it was. I used the No Fail recipe and it tastes great with the icing on it ( A little bland plain though. LOL) I used a standard royal and watered it down and put it inot bottles. They came out great for my first time. I put them in my photo's if you want to take a look. Thanks again.
