OK I made about 70 buttercream flowers this weekend, a combination of roses (various shades of lavender), daises, and apple blossoms. I set them out on cookie sheets to dry and placed them on the table in my dining room. Where by the way I had several bc flowers left over from a cake that I had helped my sister in law with two days before. I went to bed after my hours of flower making . . . the next morning I went in to admire my creations and HALF of them were gone!!!!! With telltale signs that the dog had been in the night before for a little snack . . . little scraps of wax paper chewed up all over the floor. I don't get it , she didn't touch the flowers left over from my sister in laws cake and they sat on the edge of the table for two nights but she ate half of MY flowers - and they were placed in the middle of the table (hard to reach).
The cake came out okay, just not exactly what I had envisioned . . . I just thought I could share my story with you all and you would totally understand! I will NEVER leave anything edible out again, the sneaky girl can't be trusted! Oh, and here is the cake . . .

I just had to reply to this my shizu probably spelled wrong well any way my daughter had left a bowlful of nerds candy on a desk that I had sitting beside a couch and during the night he decided to jump up on the couch and help himself . All that green dye around his mouth on his fur it was his downfall we knew he the culprit was. Needless to say we make sure there is nothing on that desk when we go to bed LOL icon_lol.gif

The cake looks great! I have to share my dog story too!! I had a border collie/Australian shepherd named Dammit. He would eat anything. One year in college, my roommate and I had project to do for Ichthyology. We had to get a fish cleaned down to it's bones. SO that meant we soaked it in bleach and other nasty stuff to get the flesh to come off (sorry, that's sounds so gross!). Well, the fish bones, with some flesh still attached, had been sitting out in the sun to dry out and Dammit ate the whole thing! We took him to the vet, not knowing what it would do to him. They gave him charcoal to eat and the vet said he ate it like chocolate. Crazy Dog!!!!

Needless to say, the dog literally ate my homework!

As a puppy, he never listened so it was always - Dammit, get off the bed! -Dammit, get out of the trash! - Dammit, don't eat my shoe! - and the name stuck! He passed away a few years ago, but I had him after both my kids were born and we were out one day. I yelled, "Dammit, get over here" and this lady thought I was yelling at my kids. OOPS!

My Turn!

The last day of course 2 I had my cake sitting on the table all iced and smoothed (like a good student icon_biggrin.gif ) anyway I was loading my car with ALL the things I needed for the class that night. I came into the house for the next load and my Boxer Buster had licked all the icing off one end of the cake. What was I to do? I just scraped that end of the cake and re-iced it and went on to class. Needless to say we didn't eat that cake.

My cats love buttercream. I can leave fondant covered cakes out on the bench and they never go near them but if I leave a buttercream covered cake on the bench I can be certain it will be licked clean of icing when I come downstairs next morning.

Beautiful cake! Butterflies look wonderful. I hope your pooch is okay! All that sugar is not good for the system, you might have to be on stand-by!

I had a Lab named Boomer who sniffed around the Christmas tree one year and ate the Eddie Bauer novelty chocolate shotgun shells I bought for my SIL as well as about half of the 3 pounds or so I had of butter cookies!

Kittikakes, that is hysterical! icon_lol.gif

Your caked turned out very pretty! Nice basket weave. When I start mixing buttercream, our dog come running into the kitchen. Last week I had some left over roses (2) and our dog thoroughly enjoyed them!
I think he prefers buttercream to royal.

My dog, Mika, is too small to get on the table, so none of my cakes have been wrecked that way. Mika however knows the exact moment I start mixing cookie dough. The moment that sugar comes out of the cupboard he is there with the biggest puppy eyes. Mom always ends up giving him a bunch of cookie dough. Oddly enough he hates cake batter.

Sorry about your cake flowers........but in the long run the cake did turn out very pretty. I personally have a dog who loves all my cake scraps from leveling. Doesn't matter what flavor, she eats it all even the lemon (LOL).........so I put everything I do on top of the entertainment center in the living room when I am finished. Georgie will follow me into the room and just sit and look at it on the top most shelf. Saddest sight to see.......

Bet that was a happy doggie! At least until the sugar caught up with it's system. icon_rolleyes.gif I think dogs will eat just about anything... at the same time they are somewhat unpredictable in their habits.

When I was a kid we had a labrador retriever that would steal loaves of bread from the counter top on a fairly regular basis. She LOVED bread... always thought that was odd. I've also seen dogs eat raw carrots, supposedly they're great for their teeth. Anyway, sorry about your flowers!

Your cake looks sooo gorgeous! Great job! icon_wink.gif

Your cake looks really beautiful.....I have a dog disaster too (with pictures) posted to disaster section (If you go back far enough, you'll find it). The little hoodlum got on the table and ate half the cake. GRRRRR!!!! He had blue icing all over his face...so guilty!
Now, at least I've learned by lesson. He is blocked out of the upstairs apartment of my house (required by law anyway)...baby gates galore!!

First off your cake is gorgeous!
Second, my Springer mix has eaten a 1/4 of a 10 in heart cheesecake that I made to take to my DH and his coworkers at the firestation - for Valentine's day a couple years ago....I guess I didn't learn my lesson well because I had a 12x18 on the kitchen table not to long ago and she knocked it down and ate part of it.....Then my DH had baught a doz. KK donuts. We had 4. He left the box on the table and the little schnauzer we have perched himself up there while we were gone and ate the other 7.....Needless to say the past month I have had 5 cakes to do and the bigger one has spent lots of time cooped up in the bathroom and the liitle one in his kennel!!! I'm getting a fridge to put out in our porch strictly for cake because it's to much of a hassle dealing with the dogs!!!

Kittis Kakes - I love that you named your dog Dammit! That's brilliant! And the other lady was right about yelling out his name when he's lost - I can see all the moms in the neighborhood covering their little ones' ears when they hear their crazy neighbor cursing at their dog...ha ha ha...thanks for giving me a great morning giggle!

I can feel your pain! I once had a shitzu/min. dauchsand mix that ate 1/2 of the bottom of my 10in round cake for my last level three Wilton class! Considering she was only 15 pounds to begin with you can imagine the mess we had in our house the next day-yikes! I think it's one of our vet's favorite stories icon_smile.gif

I had a chinese sharpei named Nugget. Well my roomate came home from work and brought a large eat pizza with him. The roomate went to the bathroom and came out the "NUGS" ate it. Well I didn't know because I was already in bed and just thought the dog went down to greet him and come back up. Well he did cme back up to bed and went to sleep. About 2 min. later I hear roomate yell,"Damn it you ate my pizza for the thrid night in a row". Me and hubby just laid in bed and was dieing laughing while our wrinkley boy just slept with a full belly.

I love your story. I was getting ready to finish course 2, had my cake in a closed box on my kitchen table and every thing else for class in my car. I came back to look at my cake about 20 min later and half of the top layer was gone! My dog is small, about 9 pounds, and she jumped up on a chair, then stuck her little head in the box and gobbled up the cake. I had to go to class with "my dog ate my home work story" too!!! It's funny now, but not at the time.

LMAO I'm glad I'm not the only one with a dog who looks at you with an icing-covered snout like "what did I do?"

His last conquest was eating one of the two "feet" I had baked to do a flipflop cake.. So I ended up with a left flipflop but no right side to go with it..

This is why I call him Monster.
