I am fairly new to cake decorating and I will be doing a bridal shower cake for a friend at the end of the month. The cake will be done use buttercream frosting.
In addtion to the main cake (which will serve about 60 people) she would also like me to make some mini heart shaped cakes --- decorated of course.
What is the best type of icing to use to decorate these? I have not used fondant yet so I really don't want to use this to cover the mini cakes. I am also worried about how to transport them. It is about a 30 minute drive from my home to the location of the bridal shower and I'm worried about them sliding in the box.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
I wont' do mini cakes because they are more work, more cost, more boxes, more PITA in regards to transportation, etc.
Be sure you charge enough for these cakes. Just because they are smaller, doesn't mean they are cheaper.
Appetizers for 50 cost WAY more than mashed potatoes and green beans for 50 .... more labor; more cost.
Look up on cc how people do petit fours, maybe that will give you the instructions you need.
Ok thanks. I will look up the petit fours instructions and see if that helps.
I really do not want to do the mini cakes either as I know how much work it is going to be (let alone the pain of transporting them). However, the bride's mother is insistant that there be mini cakes (not sure why she feels so strongly about it)
If you go to Ebay and look up SweetExpress (seller), she has many kits for mini cakes and silicone molds to go with them. Her cakes involve melting chocolate in a mold, then cutting out a cake and putting it into the mold, then sealing with more chocolate and decorating.
Also Nick Lodge has a "mini-cakes" video that he produces which is very good too, available on his website. Hope that helps some! ![]()
