Anybody have some simple instructions on how to make fondant bows??? I've seen some beautiful cakes on here that look like a "package" with the fondant bows. I'm not sure how to tackle that one. Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated as I have to do this tonight after work. Family is wonderful icon_rolleyes.gif as they think you can just twink your nose and bat your eyes icon_wink.gif and poof...... there's a beautiful cake. Thanks again

Diane Shavkin has the instructions on her site. I believe they are also in some of the Wilton Books. If you happen to have the one on fondant it is in there. You might also check the Wilton site.

I dont know about that... You may be able to buy one from Michaels or hobby lobby if you can find them I know Wilton offers them now.....

...if you don't have 24 hours, that's cutting it close! Just make sure you get the fondant real thin - so it dries out faster. If you can get your hands on some tylos power, mix that into your fondant, it will dry it out!

Girls I have'nt even made the cake yet!!!! icon_lol.gif This is going to be fun. I have to work 12hrs today and go and buy some of the supplies I'm out of and go and bake. Ill get home about 8:00 tonight to just start baking. Gotta love family!!! icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif It's a small cake so no big deal. Maybe it won't be fancy after all???? It takes less energy to laugh it off then to get angry at the loss of time. Thank you all very much for the tips. I'll take a picture to show you all what I've come up with. icon_cool.gif

ok.... not sure if I have missed the boat here regarding timing as I am in Australia.

I made one last week and had a few disasters... Here it is. THe first bow ended up in the bin..... I had to make the loops and assemble it in less than 24 hours, actually... loops to assembly ended up being around 12 hours.

Tips....

Roll it super thin....
Add more gum trag or equivelant than you think you will need
DO NOT FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS ON CC... they made it waaaaaay tooooo thick and it will never dry in 24 hours...
The broom handle idea also makes the loops tooo uniform and therefore hard to fill gaps in the bow... and believe me you will have gaps.... once you pinch the ends together, lay them on their side on some foam or styrofoam, this well help them dry really quick.
Colour your GLUE the same colour as your fondant so you can't see it.
Royal icing works best as the glue or you could use gumpaste glue.... do not use melted down fondant as some suggest.... its way toooo sticky and dries way to fast.

Hope this helps. Hope you have more luck than I did.

Wow, that's a pretty bow...it looks like a candy clay bow.

Also, gum paste dries pretty fast.
