I'm sure this has been talked about before, but I am new to cake decorating and I need some advice, and y'all are such smarty pants (he! he!) on here I knew this was the place to come for answers to any of my questions! OK here it goes......

When I am icing a cake it sems like like I am having trouble keping the crumbs out of the icing, so, somebody on here told me to crumb coat it first then ice it. My question is.....How long do I have to wait after I crumb coat it to give it it's final coat of icing? I am just having the hardest time keeping those dagum crumbs out of my white icing, it is so aggrivating!!!! icon_mad.gificon_cry.gif

Do you think I should put it in the fridge after I crumb coat it to help the icing get hard before I do the final coat?

PLease help, any advice or suggestions will be very much apprecaited! usaribbon.gif

Thank you
Connie

Just let the crumb coat crust over and you should be fine. I've heard of some people putting it in the fridge, so I guess it's your preference............BTW, welcome to CC!!!! This is a really great place, watch out, though, you'll be addicted in no time!

I always stick it in the fridge after the crumb coat ( I'm impatient !!!! ) But it gets it really firm and you don't have to be quite as gentle while doing the final frosting (w hich I"m definitely not LOL) mmdd...I see you're almost a forum addict...look out LOL I just got bumped up....doesn't take long!
