That is one huge cake! Wow! YOu get points for even attempting it! The roses look very nice and the borders look very even. Good job!

I would narrow the basketweave. The horizontal lines appear too long. When I make the vertical (up and down) stripes, I make them one tip apart ..... just use the tip next to each vertical line to space out where the next one should be. I think this will make it easier for you, too, as you won't be drawing the horizontal line out as far. I have a basketweave pic in my photos that has a close up if you want to see what I mean.

I would add some simple greenery around the bottom of the fountains and the elevated cakes ..... you will be amazed at the difference it makes! It covers up the "mechanicals" of the fountain.

I like the way the 2 cakes in the back are taller than the cakes in the front. I noticed you didn't use a plate on the table to set the pillars on .... they are sitting directly on the table. If you add the plate at the bottom, this helps the stability. I'd be very nervous with the weight of the tiered cake on pillars that are sitting loose. Here's a pic of one of my cakes to show you what I mean. http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=coppermine&file=displayimage&meta=allby&uname=indydebi&cat=0&pos=36

It is a very grand looking cake! The glass bowl separator is so elegant looking, especially with the matching florals inside. You should be very proud of what you have created!

I agree with narrowing the basketweave. I started with the 16" round first and it was hard to judge (for me) what would look good on all the cakes .... I definitely should have made it much tighter.

I wish I would have thought about adding greenery .... hmm, I'll know next time for sure!

As for the cake plate on bottom .... my husband was loading my van with me and he said he grabbed ALL the pieces and he FORGOT the bottom plate! I was horrified!! I didn't know until we were there to set up the cake! I just had to make due with what I had and pray REALLY hard that nothing bad happened!

Thank you SOOO much for your feedback...I'm very thankful that you took the time to look and help me out. You've been wonderful these last couple weeks. I'm proud of myself. It sure didn't turn out perfect but I did it REALLY cheap (urgh) and so they can't complain. I learned a lot and that was really important to me!

I agree with the narrowing of the basketweave, also the covering of the fountain bottom, ( that's a pet peeve of mine even in some early Wilton books). I also agree with putting the plate under those pillars. Whew, you scared me when I saw that one. The cake is BEAUTIFUL and tons of cake, you worked hard on that one. Can't wait to see the next one. thumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gif
