Thanks guys...

I called Sugarcraft and they dont' know who the manufacturer is (huh?) and they can no longer get it.

Earlene emailed me back that she did not know if it had nuts....Any other suggestions?

Anyone know the manufacturer? i got mine from Earlene and she has it relabeled with a list, but no actual manufacturer.

It says artifial ingredient --BUT WHAT ingredient is what i need to know!

hmmmm, I just checked my bottle of Butavan and I can't find any manufacturer either. It just says that it is bottled by Sugarcraft, Inc in Hamilton. Ohio. I would certainly think that they would know who they purchased it from. Interesting!!

I would just omit it from the recipe. I don't think it adds that much flavor anyway. Just add a little more vanilla in it's place.

I might just omit it, but now I guess I am annoyed that no one can tell me. i did find the company that sells it. Rustco, part of cereformusa and I have sent them an email.

In cakes it is not that noticeable, but in cookies it does add a lot more butter taste. i do not like the butter extract and i use 1/2 butter 1/2 shortening. Butavan is an emulsion so it does not flash off when it is baked. Regular extracts have a flash off point that causes the flavor to be less. For instance when i use the lemon emulsion i get a full lemon flavor, when I use extracts I just get a hint of lemon.

I will post if I ever get an answer back from these people.

Thanks again for all the help.

Julia
