How Do I Make A 3D Cake Come Out Evenly?
Decorating By ogolds Updated 4 Apr 2006 , 12:44pm by cookieclaire
I recently made my first 3D cake--the Wilton duck. It turned out OK with one exception. I couldn't get the cake to completely rise and fill the top portion of the pan. This caused the duck's head to come out lopsided. I fixed it with extra icing, but I'd love to learn how to get 3D cakes to come out evenly. I made the duck cake twice but had the same problem both times. The first time, I didn't use all of the batter and thought that was the problem. The second time, I used every drop but got the same result. I was using a regular store bought cake mix.
Thanks in advance for any advice!
I have never used the duck but I have made many bears. I find that using an extender recipe is the best for 3D mold. The extender recipe produces a thicker batter and coats the mold. I will fill the mold as directed and tap as I fill to get rid of air bubbles and to allow the batter to settle in those little nook.
Hope this helps

I have used this site's extender and got good results but do a forum search because everyone has their own "add-in" that makes their mix spacial. I know a while back I tried one that was sooooooo good. I will look for it and PM you.
