Hi everyone,
I just wanted to tell you about my experience with a new Ebay Scam so you don't get caught by it. I checked my email tonight from work and saw an email from Ebay confirming my listing. I never listed anything with Ebay!!! So I went to Ebay and looked up my account and low and behold there it was!!! Someone had stolen my password and placed a listing for cell phones on my Ebay Account. The money was listed in "AU" not "US" dollars. My name and my feedback and even my location was there. However, in the body of the auction in great big letters was a message telling people to email them to their "office" email address. Which was different from my email address obviously. Then under payment options was that they would only accept Money orders or Cashier's checks. In other words, this person wanted to sell these Cell Phones for $200 each with a minimum purchase of "5"... have the winning bidder email them on their email account... send them a money order or cashier's check ... Then... do you think they would get the product?????? No!!! Then who do you think they would try to blame and get their money back out of??? ME!!! Plus, Ebay was charging me the listing and selling fees.
I was lucky I caught it in time. I ended that auction and emailed Safe Harbor at Ebay. So hopefully this will be resolved. I also changed my password with Ebay.
I think this happened by the other day I received an email from what I thought was a person that I had bought from on Ebay asking me to leave them Feedback. I knew that I had just recently purchased from someone but didn't think that I should have to leave feedback first since I was the one purchasing and paid in a timely manner. So I clicked on a link "inside that email" and put in my username and password (I should have never done this!!!). I wanted to see if that person had left me feedback first. However, the person I purchased from was not the person that sent me the email. I had never bought ANYTHING from the person that sent me the email!!! So that was the scam.Do not respond to any emails from anyone saying to click a link in their email!!! Always open your browser and go to Ebay and find out what you are looking for!!!!
Sorry this is soooo long but I wanted to let y'all know. I hope that everything will be OK for me. We'll see. I don't want to have to be paying those fees. Plus it would be a shame to have to close my Ebay account after having it for over 10 years now. I knew better than to do what I did but I just wasn't thinking...

This could also happen to you if you buy... Just beware.
The same thing happened to my Mom...but when they stole her ID they also changed the e-mail address to her account. The only way she knew someone stole it is because Ebay mailed her to confirm her e-mail change. She had a rough time trying to get everything straightened out. Some people!!!! ![]()

My mom doesn't have a lot in her life and she loves ebay...and for someone to try to take that away from her makes me want to track them down and ![]()
Big hugs Susan...I'm sooo sorry, ~Denise
I just copied your story and emailed it to everyone in my email list. Thanks for the heads up, I hope everything works out for you!!

This happened to me, too -- Ebay account was hijacked, AND they rerouted all my email from the Comcast.net server to a free web-based mailbox. In the ensuing investigation, I learned stuff that I swear made my hair go grey!
Things to know:
The thieves are almost always located in a different country. (Forget getting your hands around their scrawny, illegal necks, unless you travel extensively.) ![]()
Their resources boggle the minds of most of us law-abiding, non-criminal folks. There are programs out there that do nothing but bombard an account with words to see if they can gain access. The program will use EVERY KNOWN WORD in a standard English dictionary!! For this reason, when choosing a password, do NOT choose a single, recognizable word. Either make up a word AND add numbers to it, or join two unrelated words and always add numbers. Example: button333mint pencilblossom4321.
And yes, phishing emails have become a HUGE problem with Ebay. ![]()
It's all very discouraging.
Thanks Susan,
I get the ones about confirming your recent charge with Paypal and if you didn't purchase the item, then please click on the link.
