I'm making a cake this week and the main cake will be a flower pot. I bought the terracotta americolor etc. I have a flower pot shaped bowl I'm carving the cake from. Just wondering if anyone can give me an idea on the best way to cover it...Either totally in buttercream or MMF. And if MMF, should I turn it over and smooth from the bottom and let the leaves/flowers cover up the folds etc??

Any tips would be great, thanks!

When i did my flower pot cake, i covered it in mmf. Its easiest to cover the pot upside down. I fround with the americolor terracotta i needed to add a lot of brown to make it really terracotta coloured. I dont know if it was just my batch of colour or what. Good luck with it!! Hey thanks alot! I was thinking how the terracotta looked really bright orange but I was asuming to just trust it. Thanks so much for that tip!!!! I will definately use the brown to tone it down!

Texture? lol. My mmf cracked so much that i didnt need to worry about that. My pot had as much texture as it could handle!!

There's an article on this site for how to make a flowerpot:

Unfortunately, some of the written text has been covered up by photos...but you still get the idea.
