I have printed off instructions from the Wilton website about making lillies. Can anyone give me some tips. This is my first attempt and I am making them for my Easter Cross cake.
I have my students make a small hole in the bottom of the foil. This helps them dry faster. Also, use a damp brush to smooth the throat where the petals join in the center. Makes or a nicer look.

Is it okay to make these from royal icing or should I use something else?
Royal is fine, but you can use snow white buttercream, too. I'm not crazy about using regular buttercream for these flowers as it takes a while to dry.
As for the stamen, they are not edible. Wilton no longer carries them, but if you have another supplier, or want to order online that is where you can get them. At this time there is not an easy alternative. You could pipe a small dot and line with a 1 tip, let dry and gently use them as the stamen. Your call at that point.
