Hey everyone!

I'm doing a cake for this weekend (my first official wedding cake! So it has to be perfect!), where I'll be doing rope garlands and I'm thinking of making little tassels for the joins of the rope garland. I have a clay gun I got at Nicholas Lodge's shop - I think it's made by Kammel - but it's driving me nuts! There must be an easier way - it is SOOOO hard to push the fondant through. Someone suggested using a lot of shortening on the fondant, but someone else told me NOT to do that. Does anyone know if I use straight fondant or should I mix it with Tylose or gumpaste? Would straight fondant ropes hold up well or should I worry about them falling apart? I tried doing it with MMF and it didn't work well at all, but it worked fine with store bought fondant (but it's so expensive - the rest of the cake I'm covering in MMF). The MMF came out not looking smooth at all - the texture LOOKED as if it was dry and not smooth but I had worked in so much shortening and it looked smooth on the outside. Or does anyone know if there's a better clay gun out there? I like the consistent sizes a clay gun gives - when I try to hand roll out ropes - the thickness is never even.
I'm sorry to deluge you all with questions - but I'm hoping someone out there has more experience than I do in using a clay gun. Thanks!
