It's not available yet, except through taking the classes.

What do you learn in this class? Is it mostly flowers, or is there more to it? I am really interested in taking this class.

You learn to cover a cake and cake board with fondant. You will learn the drape, handkerchief overlay, ribbon garland/border, some fondant borders and the gumpaste carnation, daisy, and fantasy flower.

As far as the books, Hobby Lobby and JoAnns (I believe) sell the course books. They are suppose to start teaching the class in May, so I'd keep an eye out in the store. Michaels does not sell the course books. And as mentioned above you can check ebay as well.

I've seen Joann Fabrics have just the books to sell. I haven't been there lately though so I don't know that they have them in. My daughter and I are taking the class now. They have 2 nights of fondant and 2 nights of gumpaste. We have only had one class so far.

I asked about it at Joanne's and they said they couldn't sell the books yet because of a "conflict" (Michael's offers the class already-Joann's can't offer it till May) I wanted it too because I had to make Gumpaste daisies for a cake and I think that is one of the flowers they do in the course. I just had to wing it! (they turned out okay I think)

The Michael's in my area has a hard time keeping the kit in stock, and there were no books available on my first night of class (a glitch in the ordering). The instructor made copies of the first few pages so we could at least have that.

On E-Bay Express there is someone that has 14 of them. They are $10.88 + 3.95 shipping. Auction Diva.... Hope it's not the one I heard of that makes copies and sells them....?

I am in Canada and completed the fondant and gumpaste course in February.

BEWARE to those of you that have completed the other 3 courses Wilton offers.... there is no prerequisite for this one, so the instructors have to start with the basics (very very very boring if you already know how to bake a cake and ice it!)

In the first lesson we were shown how to bake a cake, crumb coat and cover with fondant as well as how to cover a cake board with fondant. I yawned my way through this one. Felt like a waste of 2 hours.

In the second lesson we learned how to decoarate the cakes we brought to class using drapes and hankerchief overlays, ribbon garland and borders out of gumpaste/fondant blend. Then we touched on the carnation bases using gumpaste

Lesson 3 continued with gumpaste flowers - learned to complete carnation, daisy, carnation calyx and leaf, as well as a fantasy flower.

Fourth lesson was spent decorating the second and final cake for the course using the techniques we learned.

So really, only learned new techniques in two of the four sessions. I was not all that impressed with it, but that's me. Maybe I was just comparing it to the other three courses which I LOVED!

My Wilton instructor for 1, 2 & 3 did say we had pretty much already done most of what they cover. I did the carnation by myself...no biggie. I don't want to take it but may get the book.

I agree with you that it was a waste of time didn't learn anything in the class that I already didn't know. I wish they would have taught the flowers in gumpaste.

Is it even worth it to get the book?

If you already know the basics of fondant than I wouldnt worry about getting the book. I have it because I took the class so I type down every thing it covers:

Tinting/Marbleizing fondant
covering a cake board with fondant
making hankerchief style overlays (looks like a drape)
Ribbon garland boarder (way easy, just looking at it you know how to do it)
Carnations (no real challenge there)
fantasy flowers (theyre kind of dumb)
making leaves
using fondant cutouts
fondant favor box

you could hold on untill CC gets the book online to purchase. What that book covers is kind of basic stuff, nothing to really jump at. I took the course only because I wanted the certificate (I was way more advanced than the instructor with fondant)

Thanks... Guess I don't need the book then... appreciate the info and candidness. There is an e-bay express store that has them for $10.85 or something like that... Maybe not worth it though.....

I was disappointed with the class and thought it was a waste of time and money paying for a course that I already knew. The only good thing out of it was spending time with my daughter and helping the people who didn't have the knowledge. Don't waste your money.
