I hate Wilton's and am looking more for something that is less sweet but not so fluffy that I can't smooth it. I've looked over my stash and three pages or so here, I'm not sure what to use. I want it to look nice but the taste is more important.

I give this to all my students and they rave about it. Also have had many compliments from those I have made cakes for. I do not take credit for it. it was given to me by a friend. Even my husband likes it and he usually doesn't like BC. So try it!
2 cups Crisco
1 tsp vanilla flavor
1 tsp butter flavor
1/2 tsp almond flavor
6 TBSP water
2 lbs. powder sugar
Cream Crisco; add flavors and water mixing till smooth then add sugar! On some occasions I have added a pinch of salt dissolved in the water. It seems to cut down on some of the sweetness and the "greasy" taste although I really haven't noticed this one tasting greasy. This will crust well. Like I said, everyone seems to like it. Hope you do too!
