My hubby just decided to buy me a new Kitchen Aid. I had a Sunbeam that my mom bought me for Christmas a year or so ago, but I killed it. Anyway I am trying to decide if the $50 difference between a 325 watt motor and a 450 watt motor is worth it. I figure for only $50 extra dollars I should get the more powerful, but I wanted some feedback about performance etc.

Yes and maybe you should decide on the larger bowl too. If you can, it's nice to order an extra bowl and and extra beater and whip attachment. Just a thought. It all depends on how much you intend to bake.

Well I just do a few cakes a month, but I managed to kill the Sunbeam on mashed potatoes, so I want something I can USE, and not worry about killing. I am not overly hard on appliances, I just want something reliable, but don't think hubby will spend more than $350 or so...

yes definately worth it.

if fact if can go for the pro 600

some things to consider:

i got my pro 600 for 20% off at Linens and Things (coupon!)

and on ebay, there are severa sellers who list new ones or reconditioned ones at great discount. (one with a 99.6% rating is currently listing a new pro 600 for $335)

oh as leverage...if he has a hobby remind him of how he spends on it (and I bet he insists on the best) (egad a set of golf clubs can cost 2x--3x what a KA can!)

Well we went with the Professional 5 Plus model, which was in the middle price range, and with a bit higher power than the heavy duty model. I love it, I will be using it in a few minutes in fact to throw together a chocolate cake covered with chocolate covered strawberries for a friend's going away party. Thank you for the input, I appreciate it!
