I Just tries making MMF for the first time....I followed all the instructions, but but the MMF came out really dry and clumpy. thumbsdown.gif What am I doing wrong???? It seems like more water should be added or something? Also, can marshmallow cream be used instead of melting the marshmallows yourself? I would appreciate any help I could get!!

Maybe you can add a little shortning to the
mmf and work it in.

Make absolutely certain you used a FULL POUND of marshmallows. The bag many stores carry is only 10.5 ounces.

Good idea...that won't affect the flavor will it? Sorry if that is a stupid question...I'm really new at the whole making-my-own-fondant thing! I've always just used bought fondant.

I'm sorry....I don't understand. What is it you are thinking might affect the flavor?

Sorry crimsicle..I was responding to vixterfsu's idea about adding shortening. Now that I look at it, that's exactly what I did wrong...not enough marshmallows!!! Thanks for pointing that out! icon_lol.gif

The recipe on this website that I followed made mine come out very dry & clumpy too. However, I made it again & used ALOT less powdered sugar to 1 lb. of marshmallows and it came out perfect! You can always add more powdered sugar but once it's too hard & dry, you might as well start over. Hope this helps!

I started out with about 4-5 cups and then would add a little as I went. I used my Kitchen Aid dough hook just to blend & then I used my hands to knead.

LOL! I was just going to post asking where I could find a 16 oz. bag of marshmallows! I guess i was thinking only New England packaged them in 10.5 oz. bags. HA! Now I know that's the real reason mine came out so clumpy too. icon_biggrin.gif
