Is it wise to torte a character cake? I am making a Dora Explorer cake and the customer doesn't need a very large cake. I'm using the Wilton character pan. I usually set the Dora cake on top of a sheet cake but this customer doesn't need a very large cake at all...only enough for about ten people. I just like at least two-layers in my cakes.

I think it was just a middle of the night post for most of us. I have torted a character pan cake. It's not to hard to do depending on the size of the cake. The largest one I did torted was Sponge bob.

A mess is what I'm afraid of Doug...the cake being too thin. Maybe if I freeze it first. icon_rolleyes.gif

Thanks Sheila. If SB worked okay, it might be possible after all.

I just slid the top half onto a cake board, then slid it back onto the base of the cake after filling it. You do get to brush a plethora of crumbs away after the fact as it is a messy process.

I torted my first character cake a few days ago and had no problems whatsoever...I was really surprised.
It was the older scooby-doo pan and I placed it in the freezer for about 30 minutes before cutting it...and I actually had very few crumbs.
