I am a newbie to cake decorating, I am trying to make a 6inch cake for my daughters smash cake, I keep having problems with no matter how long i bake them they still come out uncooked in the middle. I baked two 10 inch cakes earlier and they came out perfect. same cake batter, same flavoring, any help is greatly appreciated,

Crystal

How many 6inch cakes are you making at one time? Have you tried to bake the 6inch cakes at 325 degrees instead of 350 if that's the case. Sorry, I could not be much of help. Hopefully the experts will post what they think. Good luck!

You aren't filling the pans too much are you? It's easy to go silly with smaller pans. Also, check your positioning in the oven, if baking several, make sure pans aren't touching walls or each other.
I hope you have some better luck next try!

I would suggest using less batter. If it's a smash cake it doesn't need to be huge. And if you need it taller, then make double layers. Just use less batter.

I agree, with 6 inch cakes, you have the tendency to add too much batter....(for instance a 6 inch cake only takes a couple of cup of batter)

Wilton has a great chart to follow...you may want to try their suggestions..

Crystal, I had the same problem. Here is the link to my thread in Cake Disasters:

Lower the oven temp and bake them longer.
