I called the health department one day to ask about home bakery. The woman told me that you can't run one in the state of michigan. Ok that's fine but there are two cake decorators that have thier advertisement all over thier vehicles and everything. My best friend had them do her wedding cake last june. I was just wondering if I got a lazy lady that didn't want to check or if it really is illegal to do this in Michigan.
I don't know about MI law but just b/c someone has an advertisement doesn't mean their legal...And if they are legal, maybe you don't know their situation and where they operate. They make bake somewhere else besides their homes.
Maybe someone can post something MI specific for you though.
Well I know they do it out of their home because she told us when we went there for the taste test. I thought I seen somewhere on here that you can't advertise like that if you don't have a liscence. You know.
Well, like I used to say, "it's only illegal if you get caught!"
They can be unlicensed and advertise- it's most likely not legal in your state, but people do it all of the time. Hopefully someone from your state is on that can give you more info but if that is what the lady told you, it's probably true.
I used to think as long as you didn't advertise, it was acceptable. WRONG! The purpose of not advertising is not getting caught!
I was in a similiar situation a few weeks ago here in Texas! I thought I knew what the law was until DH called the state and county health departments! Needless to say, things have slowed down a whole lot in my house. Now baking and decorating is just for family and friends.
Hmmm..... I just might go ahead and advertise. They are at all the bridal shows and everything so oh well...Just being curious. But they do have the best cakes in our area and they are the cheapest.
