Name On Cake Plates Or Returnable Items?
Decorating By darkchocolate Updated 6 Apr 2007 , 1:14am by indydebi
I was wondering if anyone labels or puts their name somehow on cake plates or other items that need returning. What would be a food safe way of doing this?
Thanks,
darkchocolate
I always put my name, address and phone number on my plates with a Sharpie marker. However, I always have my cake on a cake round (cardboard) the same size of my cake so that when the cake is cut my plates aren't cut up. If you don't use cardboard under your cake it will ruin your cake plates if cut on time after time.

I usually don't have to worry about getting stuff returned (I stay and serve the cake) but on my drop-n-run cakes, I have written in black permanent magic marker "Return to Cater It Simple" and my phone number on the back. I only do this on the board under the biggest tier as I try to utilize non-returnables on D&R's.
I've also seen another bakery in town that evidently has had their separator plates specially made because the instructions of "Return to such-n-such bakery" is molded right into the plates!
If I have to D&R I will have them leave me a deposit before hand. So if it doesn't come back I am not out of money for replacements.
Definitely always get a deposit for any items you want returned. I usually collect the price of the objects in a separate payment from the cake. That way I return the check or cash directly to them when they return my items. If they don't return them within a week I go shopping.
I do write my name and phone number on the plates with a sharpie.

What does D&R stand for?
Drop-n-Run. Normally, my cake price is a package deal with all the bells and whistles, which includes me staying to cut the cake. D&R's are for facilities that only permit the wedding cake to be brought in from the outside. Pricing for my D&R's are cake, delivery and set-up.
