What Do You Use To Cut Your Wooden Dowels With?

I have been using a steak knife, not exactly the best option I know!!! I saw a pastry chef on the food network using something that looked like a pair of gardening shears...what do you use? Where do you get it? Do you ever worry about pieces of splintering wood inside of your cakes? And while we are on the subject...what would you use to cut the plastic dowels with? Thanks everyone...Just curious...broadening (sp?) my knowledge!!! ![]()
I read a thread yesterday where someone said they use a PVC cutter for their wooden dowels. I haven't tried it-- Hubby is gonna go buy me some tonight ![]()
You get a loving, wonderful husband and make him cut them with table saw or other power tools. They ussually are returned to me nice and smooth as he sands them down so no splinters.
The plastic dowls can be cut with a serated knife however I don't cut straight so mine never come out correctly. (That's why I give them to my DH to do.)
I am going to get a miter box with a saw http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=74778-930-40328&lpage=none
I use small pruning shears as well. It works great!
i go over to my dad's wood working garage and he cuts all my dowels and boards for me along with sanding everying down too. it's great to have contacts lol
I use a pvc cutter for both wooden and plastic dowels. I have tried several things, and so far with this I can make the straightest cut. For the plastic dowels, I snip it in half, and then the other half. That way it doesn't collapse.
I haven't had to cut dowels yet but I am making a stacked cake this weekend for Easter and was just wondering how I was gonna cut the dowels. Thanks for all the suggestions. ![]()
