You don't need to put anything on to adhere it. Just roll it out and put it on, but it needs time to dry, usually leave mine overnight!
I cover just about every board I use, and I never use anything to stick the fondant to the board. I just roll it out first, lay it over the board and trim the excess from the edges, then I let it dry, overnight, or longer if I can and attach a ribbon to the edge with double sided tape.
In Australia we have boards made of mdf(a type of chipboard)that is covered in silver or gold food safe foil, this obviously helps the icing to stick, I'm not sure how you would go putting it onto something like foamcore, but maybe using a little sugar syrup might be a good idea.
Cheers,
Fran
Thanks y'all. I should have stayed up later last night to receive these last few tips!! I don't have "overnight" any longer to let the fondant dry on the board but I do have most of the day today so that should work ok.
Thanks for all your help! I knew I'd get some GREAT advice here on CC!!! You bet I'll be asking my questions on here from now on when they arise!!!
Happy and blessed weekend!!!
