I was wondering if anyone could tell me the tip size and how to make a big buttercream rose for the center of a cake. The real big one. Thank you for your time.
I'd get the biggest rose petal tip. I've seen them pretty big Wilton ones.
Wilton has really large ones in their yearly books that are huge. I'd start there and see if you can find what you want in a local store to avoid their outrageous shipping they charge.
I tried to make huge buttercream roses once and ran into a couple problems so I thought I would tell you what happened to me so you can avoid it! I didn't get the biggest tip but I think it was the next size down. You will also need the really big flower nail. I use 1/2 butter 1/2 shortening buttercream and I found that they wilted really easy so I would suggest either using all shortening bc or use fairly stiff 1/2 & 1/2 and just make sure you take a break in between each rose to let the bag cool (especially if your hands are hot like mine!). I also piped the roses on wax paper squares because they were way to big to lift off with a spatula or anything. I made them on the wax paper and then carefully transferred them to a cookie sheet and put them in the fridge. You could also put them in the freezer which would probably be better. Then after they are nice and hard they are much easier to place on the cake.

you could make one really big one by placing an unwrapped cupcake upside down in the center of your cake as the base, then using your turntable, a big bag of icing and loads of bag pressure pipe rose petals around that. that would make for one monster rose!!! tip #127D
