I had someone call me today she wants me to do cookie favors for a baby shower luncheon, can't do the cake because it is at a restaurant, blah, blah, blah. Anyway we talk for a little while we decide on butter cookies, baby bottle shaped frosted bagged and tied with a ribbon. I tell her my price and silence on the other end of the phone, I ask her if she is ok with the price and would you believe she told me that my work was beautiful and that if I was going to do this for her I really should make it worth MY while. icon_surprised.gificon_eek.gificon_surprised.gificon_eek.gificon_surprised.gificon_eek.gificon_surprised.gif ......... icon_surprised.gificon_eek.gificon_surprised.gificon_eek.gificon_surprised.gificon_eek.gif How many times have you had a customer tell you that you that you aren't charging them enough? I icon_surprised.gificon_eek.gif I had to pick my jaw up off the floor to continue the conversation, I think I am still in shock.......

I actually had that happen to me a couple of times. I insisted on a price to the last customer that told me that, and I must say it really did pay off. Then ended up giving me a $40 tip! Wowee!

Glad to hear that from you, though! I just hate it when customers don't want to pay what you NEED to charge! You must be really good~ huh?!?!

I'm a translator in "real life" and I often ask clients "What is your budget for this project?" rather than quoting a price at first. Surprisingly often, their idea of what they should pay was higher than mine in the first place (but not always...sometimes it's much, much lower!). Of course it wouldn't be polite to contradict the ones who say they are willing to pay more... icon_wink.gif ...the customer is always right, you know!

That is awesome!!! icon_biggrin.gif Usually most people want it done for free. It is good when the costomer appreciates what you do.

Well I told her that was my price and that one day I was sure it would go up but for now that was my standard price she said that was fine but that she would make it worth my while. She is picking them up on Thursday evening, I will let you know what happens. I just thought I would never hear a client tell me I wasn't charging enough. I have only had one person ever try to talk me down in price (I stood my ground), never had them try to talk me into increasing my price icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

That is awesome! Your cookies must be great if the customer wants to pay you more than you are asking! Keep us posted on how it plays out!

I have had that happen. It was a baby shower cake, 6" round, covered in fondant, decorated with fondant and had a fondant bow. She told be I should be charging more!
