I need to get a really good cake carving knife. Does anyone know where I get one of those long carving knives like you see Duff Goldman use or like the one's those cake decorator's use on those Food Network Challenges?????

What brand would you recommend?

How do you all carve your cakes?

I have been utilizing regular kitchen knives but I really want one of those long carving knives.

Please advise.

Thanks!

Anytime I have had to carve a cake I use a long serated bread knife. I think as long as you have a sharpe edge, and it's serated, you should be okay.

Yep, just like luvbakin, I use a serrated bread knife(mine Pampered Chef). At school I use a Wusthof knife, but it's more expensive than my PC one, and it does the same thing.

I use a professional boning knife. They arent serated but they are long, flexible and most importantly SHARP.

You should use different shaped knives depending on the job. Chef knives are great for long deep cuts, or when you want to taper a cake toward the bottom. If you're going to "waist" a cake, you should use a narrow serrated knife.

So really, you should have a wide assortment - and pick the right knife for the job.

9 inches

They have 2 kinds. Both 9 inches. One is forged (like the really expensive knives) and is $65 the other is not, and is only $8.75. Both are serrated. It just depends on what you want. The forged has a lifetime guarentee.

I use the $8 one and I would say it's one of the best values PC has.
