Is it standard pratice to have a 4 inch diffrence for tiered cakes for weddings?

I wish I could help but it does seem like a big jump. I'd say 2 inches . Just my 2cents.

I would think 2 inches as well, but I wouldn't know for certain.

I use 14/10/8 for a wedding for 100; 14/12/8 for a wedding for 125-150. Top tier not counted in serving size.

Both show the side spacing you'd have with a 2" and a 4" diff.
