I was asked to make mini cupcakes for a baby shower for a boy. I looked in the cupcake gallery and like alot of the flower cupcakes and the baby under the blanket ones, but the ones I am making are mini and wanted to see if anyone had any input. Another idea I had was maybe some swiss dots right in the center. The customer wants simple, but not blah.

Also, is there an icing or a yummy poured findant recipe that you could dip the top in to get a smooth top?

One buttercream rose fits perfectly atop a mini cupcake.

White with a blue monogram for the babys name made out of royal icing or fondant(so it stands up) Then could do half in blue icing and white monogram.

I like the pic you linked to cookieclaire and monogram idea, how do you make those cool letters...do you just use like a tip 5 on parchment paper to dry?

I went to Michael's and bought some lillte cups to make the mini cupcakes in, but they seem more like the size you would use for chocolates. Is there a size inbetween these tiny ones and the regular muffin size?

Maybe tiny blue booties made from buttercream icing. They stand up, so it would add a little dimension to them.

There is a middle size (I call them "juniors" for lack of an official term) where the base diameter is 1 3/4", the depth is 1", and the top diameter is roughly 2 1/2" - 2 3/4" across. There are colorful baking cups available at sweetc.com and I found some gold ones at a local specialty kitchen shop years ago. I suppose a regular muffin pan would work or perhaps using a mini-cheesecake pan (2" diameter, 1 1/2" deep, with straight sides) might give an interesting look. Do you think this size would work for you?

ETA: For comparison's sake I'll include diameters below.

Mini's Base: 1 1/4", Depth: 3/4", Top: 1 3/4"
Junior Base: 1 3/4", Depth: 1", Top: 2 1/2"
Standard Base: 2", Depth: 1 1/4", Top: 2 1/2"
Giant/Jumbo Base: 2 3/4", Depth: 2", Top 3 3/4"

Another option - brown & gold baking cups:
Pannetone-style A (straight sides) Base/Top: 2 1/2", Depth: 2"
Pannetone-style B (straight sides) Base/Top: 2 3/4", Depth: 2"
