I have made several checkerboard cakes...round. but I would like to make a sheet cake (torted) with the checkerboard pattern inside. How would I do that?? Has anyone done that before?? I guess I could use dividers of some kind...but I am not very creative. Help!

I do it this way: Bake two cakes (square or rectangular doesn't matter) one in vanilla and the other in chocolate flavors. Place them in the freezer to get them a little hard and easier to slice. This applies to both cakes, make a long cut from left to right to divide cakes in the middle; then slice cakes in three equal portions from top to bottom. Interchange squares by flavor starting with vanilla/chocolate/vanilla/chocolate and so on at the same time adhering them with your favorite filling/icing. I usually use raspberry jelly which matches both cakes' flavors. After this BORING procedure I place them back in the freezer for an hour or so to get the portions adhere to each other and get ready to decorate. I hope this makes sense to you. icon_smile.gificon_smile.gif
