So I went today to file some paperwork.......... City hall won't let me get a business licence until I have a location (? cart before the horse) and if I want to file a ficticious business name I have to go to another building 3 blocks over and if I want a sellers permit I have to go to a totally different part of town (10-15 min away!) and that is just a couple of the paper work items I need to fill out.

Can anyone share what order they got their paperwork done in? (I'm in california)

I'm sorry that I won't be a lot of help, but I wanted to just say hang in there. I'm in Georgia and it's the same way here. I had to get my location first. Then line up the contractor to convert the space into a kitchen. Then take his contract to the planning and zoning board to get approved. Then take the approved plans to get a building permit. We are in the construction phase now, when that's done, I go back to planning and zoning where they'll sign off on the construction, then I go to city hall to get a business licence. Oh wait, first the department of agriculture and the fire department have to give approval then I go to city hall. So you have to be all set up and ready to open before you can get a licence. I guess you just have to pray that you get approved. I think it is all a bunch of malarky anyway. It does seem to be backwards! Opening my bakery has been an eye opening experience!
I wish you the best! I hope it all goes well for you.
Oh and I filed my business name and tax information all on line. So I have my tax numbers and all already. That was the one thing I didn't have to run all over town for. icon_smile.gif

That is helpful. I don't think I can file mine online... it did seem like for my county I had to actually go downtown....... that is not such a pain since I live downtown, but still.
