I have a request for golf-themed cupcakes. First, I thought I could use my mini ball pan and make golf balls, but I'm thinking making all those indendations on the ball will take forever! Then I thought, I could do half-balls on top of cupcakes, but will those be giant?? And what can I use to make the indents on the ball?

Any other suggestions for golf-themed cupcakes??

How about doing grass on top, and sticking a tee into it? Or even a small flag and the hole surrounded my grass. You can add a small ball, I think if you just did a small fondant pearl, no indentations, people would get the point.

what about covering in MMF and putting the indents in them to make them look like golf balls?

Use plastic tees instead of wooden ones. I would just wash and rinse them real well before using them.

okay, will look for some plastic tees.

Does anyone have any advice on what to use if I decide to do the indents in the balls?

to put indents on a fondant ball, just use the end of a small paintbrush or something similar.

I have golf cupcakes in my photos. I made little golf balls with indentations on them. I put some green grass on the cupcakes and placed the ball on it. I made some flags out of rice paper and toothpicks. Done!

Bunco, those are great!! Did you do the balls out of MMF?

I ordered some golf ball molds and I think I'm going to do just a 1/2 ball out of candy melts and just sit it in the grass. We'll see how they come out!

What about a cupcake cake? You could ask your customer if this might be an option and explain to her/him that this would allow a bigger picture and still be in single servings.

there has to be a chocolate mold for small golf balls somewhere! I would think about doing that.

Yes, that is what I've decided to do!! but since they are only 1/2 the ball, I've decided to just do half the ball and have it be "hiding" in some grass on the cupcakes. I think it would be too noticable if I tried to put two halfs together and they weren't perfect.

Why not make cake balls for the golf balls? You won't get the dimples in them, but dang, they'd taste really good and people will not forget them.

Have some fun with it though. That grass decorating tip is a blast to work with.

Why not make the top of the cupcake look like a golfball, and as long as you use a crusting butter cream, fondant, or anothing stiff icing, the real small side of a melon baller would work for a little divet (just dont press too hard). If you are thinking smaller, try the fondant molding tools with the ball end.

I recently did a golf cupcake cake, and used fondant to make tees and golf balls. you can use the opposite end of a paint brush to make the indentions, just dont poke too deep.
