Not What I Had In Mind But I Think It Turned Out Pretty Well

Hi,
So on Friday I decided to make the WBH chocolate and peanut butter swirl cheesecake. I made the peanut butter cookies to make the crust with (recipe from the WBH book too, delicious!) and yesterday, Saturday, I made the cheesecake. I made it in a cake pan, like she suggested and it came out of the cake pan perfectly, no problem.
However, the top of the cheesecake looked browner than intended. I have an oven thermometer and checked that the temperature was right, I covered it after 20 minutes into the baking to make sure it didn´t get much browner and still it got sort of darkish brown on the edge. Since it was a swirl cake I decided to make a design kind of like the one you make when icing a cookie with royal icing where you pour stripes of two colors and go up and down with a toothpick. It did look fine before baking but after baking, there was a crack that had been made by one of the swirls ![]()
Don´t worry, I said to myself. I´ll cover it with ganache. So this morning, after it had chilled for more than 8 hours, I made the ganache and poured it on the cake. This is just my second cake covered with ganache and I think I´m doing something wrong because I couldn´t get it smooth enough and I thought the consistency was good. So now what do I do? Ok, I decided to crush some more of the peanut butter cookies and put them on the sides and then make some ganache roses to cover some imperfections on the top and then do cornelly with dulce de leche.
This was not a cake to sell (I don´t do this professionally) but if it had been I might have had a heart attack after all the set backs.
I think it turned out pretty good. What do you guys think?

Ps: Sorry the message is so long.
Thanks you all. You are so very nice
I gave my room mate a piece and she really liked it too! ![]()
This Whimsical Bake House book is really good. I´ve tried at least 5 recipes out of it and I´ve liked them all (Well, the chocolate cupcakes were just OK). I´ve also made their GrandMarnier Cheesecake and that was delicious too. Again I had some problems with browning (I think I need to say goodbye to my oven
) so I did some patching too.
Here is a picture of it (I´m feeling brave today... Sometimes I feel shy about posting pictures because all you guys do such beautiful cakes and I´m still learning
)
Happy baking,
Inma
Both your cakes are wonderful!!! You did a great job and I want a piece of that cheesecake really bad now!!! I was thinking about buying that a copy of WBH and I think I'm going to do it! You have convinced me.
