So about 4 months ago I thought it would be great to make my own cake for my birthday. It was going to be my big Golden Birthday. I was really excited about it and thought it would be a great chance to do some stuff I had been wanting to try.

So my idea started with a 3 tier topsy turvy cake. Roses sitting on each layer around the edge and a gold 2 and 4 on the top. With either strips or triangles or swirls on each tier. Having daisies and butterfly's on their somewhere.

Well my design stayed somewhat the same as you can see, however getting there was another story. I was planning on baking the cakes 2 weeks before, getting them frozen to cut/fill/stack the week before. During that 2 weeks before getting the butterfly's, daisies, and MMF ready to decorate the sunday before my party.

My schedule the week of the party was as follows
sunday-10 hr work day
Monday-8 hr work day & travel to class (about 8 hrs round trip with class time)
Tuesday 10 hr work day and then Cake class for a few hours
Wednesday 8 hr work day & travel to class (same class as monday so the day was shot)
Thursday-Home by 3pm from work and be at party at 6:15 (about 10 minutes from house)

Well it stayed pretty much that schedule except thursday I didnt' get home until 5:30 pm b/c I had to work late.

When I first stacked my cake all looked well until I woke up the next morning and the top tier was a little more topsy and turvy than I had planned on.... it fell on it's side. So I re-set it and doweled it until I was ready to decorate. The next day pretty much the same thing with the bottom tier... it just didn't fall over all the way. I found out that I need a denser cake than I thought I did.

Thankfully I am in Wilton course 2 atm. I made my butterfly wings and daisies in class hehe-using my time to the maximum potential =)

So the day of the party got home 45 minutes before I had to be at the restaurant. Stacked the cake, had to mix pink buttercream for the roses, mad the roses. I also add to add shimmer dust to the butterfly's. Added the dasies and the butterfly's to the cake. However in the process I was being very clumsy and dropped two buttercream roses down the side of the top tier and had to clean those up-thankfully fondant cleans up fast. Dropped two butterfly's on the floor-it would have been prettier with more. And then I also dropped about 5 daisies on the floor. I ended up with only two extra after all the droppage (they ended up on top hiding the two support dowels)

But my numbers that were too be my topper also broke as I was adding gold shimmer dust to them-was very upset!

So with the cake done at 6:20 I ran through the shower got dressed... wrapped a couple of my gifts from my bf then we were out the door at 6:30. So I was the last one to arrive to my party (oops!) Took me about 1/2 hr to relax and enjoy it since I was so rushed.

But the cake was good everyone enjoyed it and I survived the night!

Hopefully I didn't bore anyone to much, it had been a VERY hectic week (i got the addrenaline going again just thinking/typing about it) , thankfully I took the weekend off =)

ok, so I just re-read everything I typed and it didn't make a lot of sense... i think I missed some stuff that happened lol-but to sum it up, it was a stressful 3 weeks and i am not sure I will attempt a task like this again for myself without more time allowed =)
