I have made my buttercream with all-butter 'cos we don't have crisco here in Finland.

The unsalted butter that they sell here is not good for people with lactose intolerance (=can't eat regular milk products).

I bought low salted butter and there was 0,9 % of salt (it was low lactose butter). How much you have salt in your salted butter that you use for BC? Have you ever thought that the BC made with salted butter is too salty?

Well I can't help with the percentage of salt, but I have been trying to find a good IMBC for a while and I have found that everyone I have asked like it MUCH better when I use unsalted butter. I just add a pinch of salt to the frosting otherwise.

I only use salted butter in my buttercream recipe. I do not like to use unsalted., it makes the icing too sweet and a different texture. It does not make the icing salty at all. It only cuts down on the grease and cuts the sweetness a little bit. It does not give a percentage; but it has 90g sodium per stick. I promise that salted butter is not going to make it salty. I have tried unsalted and didn't like the texture or flavor. Salt cuts the grease so that it doesn't leave the greasy feeling left on your palate.

I agree 100% with what CakesWithAttitude said. That is exactly how I feel about the salted/unsalted. Very well put icon_lol.gif

Thanks a lot. I'm not so stressed about this anymore.

And I can happily try my BC with salted butter tomorrow.

for IMBC i use unsalted, cause there is not alot of sugar in this buttercream.

But for good old American buttercream i use the salted. And if i'm baking i use salted and omit any salt that the recipe calls for.
