Help! I am new to cake decorating and have my first weeding cake and she wants it covered in off-white and chocolate fondant. I have read that Satin Ice is everyones favorite but where do you get it?

Christy's cake Supplies. She is awesome, her store is on Main street, just east of Country Club. She carries Satin Ice.

Hi,
Yes, go to Christy's Cake Supplies. She carries it in 5lb and 25lb buckets. And has both white and chocolate. Satin Ice tastes really good in my opinion.

Come join the cake club..we meet at that store monthly too! Great fun!

Christy's is great (thanks KimAZ icon_smile.gif ), I could spend a LOT of money there. Last time I was in there which was on Friday they were out of the white satin ice, but they had done a rush order that I *THINK* might be due in sometime this week.

ABC Supplies in Phoenix has a lot more stuff than Christy's... but they don't carry Satin Ice (I think). I much prefer Christy's for my stuff, but will go to ABC for things I know she doesn't carry. Christy is so super sweet, I much prefer giving her my business.

Karate,
I hope you can make it soon! We've got so many new member and getting more each month. Makes it more fun!

Darlene,
Yes, the meetings are on the last Monday of each month from 6:30pm -9:00pm. Hope you can make it too! I'd love to meet you all!

ABC decorating does carry Satin Ice too. They have a lot more of the plastic/toy decorating things, candy and cookie molds if anyone needs that kind of thing. Christy's has everything I ever need and frankly is cheaper on a lot of it. I've compared prices at both those stores as well as Michael's, Joanns, Party City and even Wal Mart for comparsion and Christy has them beat.

Have a great day!

Yeah I agree-- Christy's is priced very well! Only problem is I spend WAY too much money every time I set foot in her store.

Now I really want to learn to use the fondant and gumpaste tools.

I might see if I can come on the 30th.... Our only issue is we have 4 small dogs, they are crated all day while at work, we live in Maricopa so can't just run home to let them out. We'd have to go to Christy's from work... so I'd have to find someone to let the dogs out.

If I can work that out I think I'll come...

What exactly do you guys do for 3 hours?

I hope you can make it Darlene! Well, the actual meeting part doesn't start until 7:00pm. The first half hour is basically just people getting there, signing in, refreshments and chit chat. Then the president starts with any business, hand outs, upcoming events etc, etc. Then there are usually two demos. Lots of questions and answers going on then and sharing techniques on the demos. That pretty much takes up all the time. A lot of the people end up buying stuff from the store too so people are always around after the demos too.

I've just taken over doing the club newsletter so hopefully will get some feedback on that this month.

I don't have much to add to this post, but wanted to say hi cuz I am in Mesa too. I haven't been to Christy's yet, but have made it out to ABC. How do prices compare to Michaels with a 40% off coupon? Just curious.

Is there a cake club for the EV? I only ever hear of the WV one....

Hi Wendy,
I suppose some things would be cheaper using the Michael's coupons. But once you have all the basic supplies, I'd still go to Christy's. For me, it's just kind of supporting one of our own so to speak.

Yes, we have a cake club in the East Valley. It's called the Confection Connection Cake Club. Meetings are held on the last Monday of every month at Christy's Cake Supplies which is right downtown in Mesa. Right now there are at least 45 members and ever since I've been going at least 25 people show up each month. I think that's great! The West Side cake club hosts their meetings too and many of their members come to the East Valley's meetings. So it's great to learn from everyone.

Hope you can make it sometime!

Thanks Kim! I will look up the group and hopefully try to come one of these days. I really do need to get over to Christy's since it is probably closer to my house than any Michaels. icon_biggrin.gif

Michaels only has so much stuff--- and basic stuff at that... when you want to get more technical then you need to go to ABC or Christy's....
