So I'm trying to get some Americolor, but I'm confused as to which one to get. Which coloring is just the normal icing coloring? I'm only seeing the air brush color and the gel color.... icon_eek.gif Too formal for me to understand which is which icon_rolleyes.gif

TIA!

Great question. I have been using Wilton paste colors for years. I am now having trouble with them. They are not pasty, more like grainy, even the brand new ones. I read in one post where the Americolor brand was great to use to color white chocolate. I had bought the Wilton candy colors and they completely dried out after the first use. I even stored them in a Tupper Ware container. icon_confused.gif I also bought some if Country Kitchen's powdered food coloring. Can't figure out how to use it. I doesn't tint my icing, and doesn't desolve in Everclear to "paint" fondant thumbsdown.gif . I guess I am doing something wrong. I thought they would be more ..umm..potent..so far they have been absolutly useless. So, I too would like to know which brand/type to buy to use for tinting icing, chocolates, and painting fondant.

I have never been able to attain a rich/dark color with wilton. No reds/blues/blacks/white. I was recommended to use Americolor... so now I'm hoping to give it a shot thumbs_up.gif

I just recently started using Americolor. I have had no problem with the Wilton colors but the Americolor comes in squeeze tubes so it is easier to control how much color goes in, and no more toothpicks! The gel is what you want. They are equivilent to the Wilton paste.

The Americolor gels are what you use for tinting BC ,Fondant icing etc.Airbrush colors are specifially designed for airbrushes as the liquid is thin like water. The flowcoat is used in conjunction with the gel colors to allow you to use ANY gel color to tint candy which is oil based but the flowcoat allows the two to chemically mix without the candy seizing!

Thank you!!! That's what I needed to know thumbs_up.gif I figured the air brushing one was for airbrushing, but then I couldn't find hardly any gels so I had to make sure before I ordered icon_cool.gif

Can you mix the gel with Everclear to brush paint fondant?

I mixed Americolor chocolate brown with alcohol to make a paint consistency and it works great! I've also done this with paste colours with great results. Americolors are great and a little really goes a long way.
