Ready Made Royal Icing Flowers And Bc Icing Cake ?

I have ordered premade royal icing drop flowers. I need to attach them to a buttercream cake (as the border for a castle cake). If I make the buttercream/frost the cake (100% shortening) and attach the flowers the night before the cake is due will it cause the flowers to soften/break/fall off?
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I would recommend attaching the RI flowers at the last possible minute, just in case. Especially if there is any driving/delivery concerns with road conditions (potholes, etc.), sitting overnight up against buttercream could possibly cause them to be more fragile than you wish and they may break.
Another method I've used in the past is to attach your RI flowers to a sugar cube with a dot of royal. Then just "embed" your sugar cube almost all the way to the top of it into the buttercream. That way, your royal isn't compromised, you get a little more of a 3-D design effect, AND you have room for leaves underneath your flowers to kind of "hide" any sugar cubes that might just want to poke out and show through. If you're airbrush savvy, a quick, light "paint" of green food color on the sugar cubes may be all the extra effort you need to help hide them.
Besides, sugar cubes are edible, so if anyone gets one in their slice of cake, they can choose to eat it -- or not -- whatever they want to do!

The flowers will probably soften but won't break unless somebody starts poking at them. I Put royal icing flowers on a cake the night before my daughters birthday and had to keep it in the freezer as I filled it with ice cream. The violets were soft when I served it but did not run, or break and they did not fall off. I hope this helps you.
I've placed royal icing items on BC cakes as much as 2 days advance and have not had problems with them softening or breaking down.
If your really concerned about the breakdown - you could also make a flower base out of royal - attach the flower to it and then place it on the cake - that way if there is any breakdown - it will happen to your base and not your flower.
