Hi and welcome!!!!

I use the hot-spatula method to smooth my icing and it looks very smooth like fondant. Not to fond of fondant so I stick to BC, you just have to work at it and you'll get it smooth.

I have used this method on Wilton's BC, and cream-cheese icing and it works great.

Regards,
Naty

Actually, you don't need a special icing to do faux fondant.... It just takes a little practice and you could do it with any icing. I bought a dvd on the technique and the guy uses whipped icing and a piece of acetate to get the smooth round edges. I've used my icing and it's not crusting and it worked fine. You could do it with the meringue buttercream...

I do the VIVA paper towel trick all the time, and several of my customers have asked if my BC was fondant...
It realy makes it smooth!
