O.k., just wanted to let everyone know that my son won his Pinewood Derby yesterday. Or, should I say, my husband and my son won the Pinewood Derby yesterday. Being a girl, I thought it was only a father son thing, but we had a good time. He actually won a 3rd place for his age group, but won the overall race against the whole pack. He is such a nice guy that he said he only really wanted one trophy and wished someone else had gotten his other trophy.

The funny thing is that my husband and his friend were more excited than the kids and more competitive. Both kids got trophies. Too Funny!

Thanks! He is a wolf I think. We have been waiting over 3 months for this because it had gotten canceled and getting the gymnasium was almost impossible for a few months. I remember my brothers doing this, but back then it was a father and son thing. Moms didn't really go. Of course their den leaders have always been moms. Funny!!! But they never had the race in a big place either.

Quick question...Did your group give out awards for best looking car? Ours wouldn't have won, but I thought it was funny they didn't do that. All the kids did great.

Congrats to your son! My son's car came in DEAD LAST...I felt so bad...my husband was away and I didn't know any of the "tricks" of building a fast car. Anyway, I was so proud of him...Kids can really be great winners and losers, can't they?

Congratulations! My son didn't want to do it this year, not sure why, but last year he won best looking car or something like that and got a really cute trophy. I hope he decides to do it again next year. It's stressful getting the car ready in time, we never seem to start early enough, but the kids have so much fun doing it.

meganlove they did hand out an award for best overall look of the car but not in the individual age groups I wish they would stop that though you can very clearly see the boys whose parents did all the work and its just not fair to the boys who do the work themsleves or if there going to continue it at least do it in the age groups I dont really see how a 6 year olds work is going to be compared to a 15 year old it doesnt seem right to me but thats nethier here nor there.
agian congrats to your son.

The pinewood derbies can be very exciting!

Congrats to your son on winning those trophies. thumbs_up.gif

My son's car didn't win enough races for a place trophy, but he did get one for best decorated. (His older brother helped him a bit.)

The two of us made a decorated Cookie Monster cake for another event.

Those were some very good.) times. (I still have his cub scout shirt.) tapedshut.gif

I can't see how 6 year olds can build a car themselves either. Our son picked out the design, but my husband had to cut it out. He sanded it and painted it. I wasn't worried about how it looked too much, but I remember being the kid who did their own projects when I was a kid and never won because everyone's mom and dad helped them. We take a role of letting him pick what he wants and teaching him how to do it.

I was all ready for the cake making, but our troop didn't do that. That's all I can do to help. Thanks for all the congrats.
