Am I The Only One Who's Family Thinks They're Nuts?!?!

Ok- so my family, especially my boyfriend, thinks I'm completely crazy about my cake decorating. I am so focused on getting them "just right" it drives him nuts b/c I get frustrated and aggrivated with myself if something goes wrong - then he starts to laugh b/c he thinks I've completely lost it - He always says to me - "It's just Cake!!!" WHAT - JUST CAKE!!! lol - oh, it's more then just cake to me!! hee hee And not to mention that I treat each cake like it's my first born!! ha ha ha - I mean I don't want anyone touching it, carrying it, cutting it! (ok, I see the obsession now that I've put it in black and white!) I made one for him to take to work (the brown vine and pink flower one) and I've called a few times to "check on it" lol - they didn't wind up eating it yesterday so they saved it overnight to have today and I worried about it last night- OH MY GOD - I am a total nut!! So this morning I called him when he got to work to make sure it was still ok and that they had stored it properly. Now my next obsession is if it tastes ok - I have to wait until lunch time when they cut it!! hee hee - I don't worry about my own real kids as much as I've been worrying about my cakes! I think I need a 12 step program!
Oh my gosh I am do glad that I am not the only one that feels the way you do. I do not want any one carring my cake either. When I am smothing out my icing with a viva I talk to my cake almost as its my cat or something.
I use my hand to smooth it so my cake is very much 'petted'. LOL wow how silly is that?
I am a cake lunitick!! LOL
There IS no 12-step program for this.....so, just enjoy it!! ![]()
YES! This is sooooo me! My husband hates it when I have a cake to decorate. I think I drive him crazy! I can't leave it alone for a minute without wanting to change something, but aside from that I'm also constantly concerned for its well being. I mean, like it has a well being! I don't want anyone to touch it. Keep it far from my kids and even my husband. I won't let him do anything near the cake, like pour a glass of milk or even take a vitamin. I constantly imagine different scenarios for tragedy to strike! So, I try to do the work while he's at work, then pop it in the fridge. Despite the ongoing debate about whether or not to place cakes in the fridge, it's my best way of protecting my masterpiece. We have an extra fridge in the garage, so that's my cake sanctuary.
Don't fret about it! I'm sure there are A LOT of nuts here just like you!!! ![]()
My hubby think I'm nuts because I get aggravated, too!
So, he offers to help and then I'm just like: UGH!!!! And, I get even more aggravated. But, now he's learned to only offer advice when asked.
But, one good thing I can say about him is that he DOES KNOW that it's more than just cake! So, atleast he's got that going for him!! LOL
Just last week I made a cake and I was so aggravated and my husband kept saying, "It's just a cake" after he said about 6 times (yes I counted) I flew off the deep end. So you aren't the only one that babies their cake we all do. And my husband god love him felt so bad about saying "it's just a cake" that the next day he brought home roses and took me to dinner.
I've said it before and I'll say it again.....Geeks, we're all a bunch of Cake Geeks!
I mean that in the nicest way.
We should start a support group. "Cakes....and the people who care for them"
OMG- I'm so glad that you guys are right there with me... My boyfriend offers to help too when he sees I'm getting frustrated - I'm like, Uh, NO THANKS - like I would let him even touch the cake let alone get anywhere near it! LOL Sometimes I get so obsessed about making it perfect I have to say to myself - STEP AWAY FROM THE CAKE - I just need to give myself a time-out and regroup - But I do think my biggest problem it not letting it be done when it's done - I'm always thinking what else I should add or should I have done something different - I overthink it WAY too much!
But atleast I know I have a problem - ![]()
Me too! Me too! Just last night I started to cry because my icing didn't turn out and my husband just looked at me like I was crazy. But he is great, he is a chemist so whenever there is a problem with a recipe he always understands whats going on and helps me fix it. He can't decorate but he can sure figure out the science in a recipe and he gets it right every time. I have never seen a man with a steadier hand whne pouring hot icing into a small funnel, like I do for petit fours.
Yea- my boyfriend was pretty sweet the other night when I was decorating a cake he took out the camera and took a picture of me - and I was like, ok, what are you doing - I look a mess LOL - and he said - you really amaze me - I can't believe you can take something as simple as cake and make it look so beautiful!! AWWWWW - he can be sweet - but then I looked at him after he was watching me for a minute and I said, ok, are you going to keep staring b/c I can't work like that!! LOL
I'm such a pain!! hee hee - so he got up and quietly went up to bed!!! I don't like people watching me at all - it freaks me out - I don't like people to know how I got to my final product- I just want them to see the end result - b/c honestly, sometimes the process is not pretty!!! ![]()
