I am using gumpaste for my first time. I am making the cake that looks like a crib or a playpen. I rolled out the gumpaste a little fatter than a pencil, maybe one of those kindergarten pencils. How long for it to dry and how long for gumpaste glue to dry? I did the rails Friday and the party is for this coming Saturday.
I read the gumpaste glue forum and just need to pick a glue. Which dries the fastest? I could assemble Friday night, or take it all to her house and do it Saturday morning. It is about an 8 minute car ride. What do you suggest? This is my first real cake. It is my for my best friends first baby.

I forgot to mention this is not my cake, only what I am hoping to copy. It was to give you an idea of what we were working with. Sorry about that. Another CCer did it. ![]()
I would say at least a couple of days to be fully dry. I like to place my gumpaste pieces next to my de-humidifier to help speed up the process. The gum glue is strong once dried, but you will have to givet time to set especially if you are glueing dried gum paste pieces together--it is not an automatic bond. Royal icing is also another strong bonder works well with already dried gum paste pieces.
I don't take chances anymore. Too many accidents and broken pieces. One solid week for big pieces for a cake. That playpen in my mind is a big piece.
Actually I am making a very large sculpture at the moment for an Art show this month and it has been "drying" for three weeks. And I am starting another one for June that I expect to dry for almost a month.
What glue are you using?
