OK so I made this cake yesterday for my nephews birthday party today.. I LOVED this cake yesterday but when my sister came to pick it up this morning I was mortified to see the colors had all bled together. This was my second time doing FBCT but i really like the technique and it looked great yesterday.. I put it in the fridge overnight, was that the problem?
I also use buttercream dream frosting!
Even my words bled alittle, I don't want this to happen again.. I felt terrible.
Thanks in advance!

I do not use FBCT but is it possible that it could have bled in the thawing process, esp since the colors are so bright?

I prefer to draw my pictures right on the cake and fill in on top and smooth.... but I know most people prefer FBCT.

maybe it's just me, but I'm not seeing where it bled. Looks fine to me.

That's real weird, it's never happened to me before? Is buttercream dream real thin? it could be a mixture of both fridge and buttercream. REAL WEIRD.

i agree w/th Kitagrl, when it thawed after putting it in the fridge, might have been the problem for the bleeding colors.

when I've made bC dream, it was as stiff or thin as I made it to be. But seriously....I'm not seeing bleeding in this photo.

I think the cake still looks nice!! I love that design!

I think the condensation from the fridge may be the culpret....I usually leave the cake out after I but my FBCT on the cake...But, I also use the crusting buttercream icing too....Who knows, I've never used buttercream dream though....does it crust up well??

Its not bad but you can see the red details on the yellow car have bled, and on the rocket the blue has bled onto the red.

ok so maybe use a crusting buttercream instead. My buttercream dream was kind of thin as i had been working with it prior to doing the transfers. I didn't have any bleeding while I kept the cake at room temperature but I thought I should store it in the fridge overnight, not true? It didn't look like condensation just bleeding..
Thanks everyone for the replies, I knew I could get some advice.
The bleeding is hard to see here but the rocket is pretty bad and the door handle on the car. I am my worst critic but I am just hoping to avoid a similar situation... icon_smile.gif

Still looks lovely - slightly hazy effect looks like a picture drawn in pastels.

ok....I can see the bleeding on the door handle now. But dang....that's minor! Especially if you're not selling this cake.
As for the blue on the rocket.....I thought that was shadowing.

thanks everyone for the tips.. I will have to try to use a thicker buttercream and leave it at room temperature. It is ok to leave an all buttercream cake at room temperature? And for how long?

i find if there is too much moisture in the icing it will bleed, also if its hot out. but you had it in the fridge. i think your icing was to thin.

the cake still looked good.
